64bit and x64 - Start64!

As far as servers go, you don't think much of them. They generally just sit in the background and do what they are supposed to. One usually doesn't think of flashy GUI interfaces when it comes to servers either. They generally are fairly straight forward and basic and in the case of Windows, haven't change a whole lot in the past several years, until now with Windows Server 8 and its Metro interface, which most likely will be largely ignored however, at least initially.

The Salix Live team is proud to announce the immediate release of Salix Live KDE 13.37. Following Salix Live Xfce 13.37, this release is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.

Hot on the heels of the slightly delayed official unveiling of Firefox 11 FINAL comes Waterfox 11.0, an optimized build of the Firefox source code for Windows 64-bit users. Waterfox 11.0 contains exactly the same updates as Firefox 11 (see below), plus one major change of its own, a switch from AMD’s Core Math Library (ACML) to the AMD LibM library, which is optimized for 64-bit processors.

We have been tinkering around with Windows 8 for a couple of weeks now and while we are still not found of the Metro UI (especially on the desktop) there are things that do make it an appealing operating system. Still there are some things (as there always are) that will cause issues. Back when Microsoft made the move from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 many games did not like the transition to needing a Hardware abstraction layer.

This package includes the NVIDIA Display Driver version 296.17 for Windows 8 Consumer Preview x64. The drivers were spotted on the Windows Updates server. In the Device Manager, after the installation, the version will be updated to 9.18.12.9617. A list with the supported cards can be found within the .CAB file. The drivers are WDDM (Windows Display Driver Model) version 1.2.

In the recent release of Windows 8 Consumer Preview, Microsoft made a huge change in their operating system, by completely removing the Windows Start button. as of yet, no registry setting has been discovered to find the lost start button, making the only option for consumers third party software.
