Atelier Web Firewall Tester is a tool for testing the capabilities of your Personal Firewall (PFW) software against outbond attempts. This will help you tweak your existing PFW software for improved protection or make a rational choice of a PFW from within the available alternatives in the market-place.
A significant number of PFW software is unable to cope with unauthorized outbond attempts and will fail on each of the six tests AWFT submit them. Some PFW software have settings which allow sensible improvements after a few tweaks. You have to try and obtain the best compromise without dramatically reducing the quality of your network experience.
Either way, bear in mind: If your PFW software does not score 10 in the whole set of tests, your system is vulnerable. If it approaches a score of 10, this is a good indication that a serious work has been done by your PFW software producer to reduce unauthorized outbond traffic risks.
AWFT 32-bit is for 32-bit editions of Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Vista, Windows Server 2008 or Windows 7. Tests 1,2 and 6 will run as well on a 64-bit Operating System due to the WoW64 facilities. Tests 3, 4 and 5 can not be performed on 64-bit Operating System by AWFT 32-bit.
AWFT 64-bit is for 64-bit editions of Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Vista, Windows Server 2008 or Windows 7.
