Start64!Fusion 16 Beta has been announced by Valent Turkovic, a developer that also put together Fusion Linux 14, a distribution which is essentially a Fedora Remix. Fusion Linux is an installable Live DVD ISO image that includes multimedia functionality out of the box, with added desktop tweaks for usability and additional software.

Start64!GeIL, now that's a name we haven't heard in a while. The release of the X79 chipset, though, has brought with it an introduction to many companies we've dealt with in the past, but not so much recently. Talking to GeIL, we wondered what kind of kit we should be checking out today. I was all for some nice high speed Quad Channel memory and it didn't take long for my prayers to be answered with the EVO CORSA PC3-19200 kit we've got on our hands today.

Start64!When it comes to purchasing new peripherals and extension cards, two major concerns for computer owners are hardware and software compatibility. Terms like "64-bit" can be confusing and may cause confusion among buyers. You can confirm that the graphics card you want to buy will be compatible with your hardware and operating system by following a few recommendations.

Start64!Incident responders and forensic investigators need to be careful when using 32-bit tools to examine file system artifacts on 64-bit Windows. Christian Wojner documented the issue in a paper titled The WOW-Effect. He demonstrated how the WOW64 File System Redirector built into 64-bit Windows transparently redirects 32-bit tools’ access to core OS directories and registry values. This is likely to confuse forensics personnel performing live analysis of the system.

Start64!You won't be able to watch online video content on a Windows 7 64bit PC if you have the wrong version of Adobe Flash installed. Our Helproom Expert explains. - QUESTION I recently purchased an Acer laptop running Windows 7 64bit. I'm unable to play BBC iPlayer programmes on it, however, since the service requires Adobe Flash Player and it's not available for Windows 7 64bit. How can I get around this and use iPlayer to watch video or TV programmes that require Flash player? Phil Reading

Start64!The Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API 2.0 is a managed-code platform that empowers developers to build applications that provide access to and control over Microsoft’s Enhanced Presence information, instant messaging, telephone and video calls and audio/video conferencing. It enables both text based, as well as voice based - speech technology enabled – conversations and collaboration.

Start64!After recently comparing Ubuntu 11.10 and Fedora 16 for boot speed and power consumption, up now are various Linux benchmarks under both of these distributions. This is a comparison of the 64-bit performance of Ubuntu 11.10 vs. Fedora 16 in an out-of-the-box configuration.

Start64!At the moment it feels like we've got an almost 1 to 1 ratio when it comes to X79 motherboards and accompanying Quad Channel kits, especially over the last week as we see less boards coming in, but more RAM arriving with the latest company to offer us a Quad Channel Kit of RAM being Patriot.

Start64!In 386 ASM it was possible to modify the lower 8-bits of AX without affecting the upper 8-bits of AX, by addressing these bit-ranges as AL or AH, respectively. And so one might have thought that one could also modify the lower 32-bits of the newer 64-bit registers such as RAX, RBX, RSI, etc, without affecting their upper 32-bits... by addressing them as EAX, EBX, ESI, and so on...

Start64!In this tutorial we'll look at the left and right shifts in the MMX instruction set. It's all pretty straight forward. There's a whole bunch of instructions so I've made a table similar to the one from the addition and subtraction tutorial.

ARM’s 64-bit dreams

Start64!There was a time when ARM processors were strictly for small devices such as mobile phones and embedded applications. But now the British processor maker has bigger ambitions: the data centre. ARM’s early successes were in the mobile phone arena as its processors were small and used very little power. But in terms of processing ability, ARM processors were not particularly powerful, and so weren’t suited to much more than basic smartphones.

Start64!There are going to be two openSUSE 12.1 reviews on Dedoimedo this autumn. This first one, on my high-end laptop with a proper Nvidia card, 64-bit and whatnot. The second will target a much older laptop, a T60p beast with a processor capable of 32-bit instruction sets only and a graphics card that runs on coal. Today, it's i5, dual boot, external disk installation, virtualization, desktop effects, and all that.

Start64!The R programming language, which is used in particular for statistical data analysis and visualization, now supports 64-bit integers, a limitation that has so far hindered some uses of the language.

Start64!The other day we looked at the new Corsair Dominator GTX8 8GB kit and we found ourselves really impressed with what Corsair was offering us. The problem with this kit is that to achieve 2400MHz DDR, you need a CPU that's able to offer that kind of speed and as we mentioned in that review, out of the three 3960X CPUs we had, only one could achieve this speed with the other two maxing out around the 2300MHz DDR area.
