I show off the advanced automatic re-partitioning feature of the Ubuntu installer. I also show the very nice desktop wallpaper made by a OSGUI fan known as wally.

Screencast Tutorial Review of the New and Improved Ubuntu Tweak 0.5.0 on Ubuntu Linux 9.10 64bit Karmic Koala

In part one, I show you just how quick and simple it is to install Ubuntu Linux on your computer. In this scenario I am installing it in a virtual machine with Ubuntu 64 bit. The installation is far more simple than other versions of Linux, and is very quick to install as well. It only took around 10 minutes or so for the files to copy over.

In part two here, I show you install some virtual machine drivers. Unfortunately this is one of those things that is more difficult than it should be. I find almost everytime I need to install drivers for any Linux distribution I have to compile them. I believe this to be a waste of time, and that all drivers should be pre-compiled beforehand so end users do not have to fool around with the compilers, etc.

I was deciding if I wanted to take advantage of running on a 64bit kernel on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala, and I really had no reason to stick with 32bit. 64bit allows better performance, and has been reported to be as stable as 32bit while being faster.

With VMware, it is useful that the host and the guest operating systems work well with each other – e.g., for a better screen resolution, to share folders, to make the mouse cursor smarter, and some others. In this case, between Snow Leopard on my MacBook as the host, and 64-bit Ubuntu 9.10 (also known as Karmic) as the guest, using VMware Fusion 3.0.1.
