Office 2010 Leaves Some XP Customers Without Support

Start64!If your planning on upgrading to Office 2010 when it comes out around June 2010 and you are a XP user then you might want to think about it. According to Microsoft the new Office 2010 will not support XP 64bit. Now it will support XP 32bit, just not the 64bit.

Why Office 2010 won't support Windows XP 64-bit

Start64!When the system requirements for Microsoft Office 2010 were first posted, we noticed that Windows XP 64-bit was mysteriously absent. We contacted Microsoft, and the company explained that while deciding on which versions of Windows to support in the next release of Office, it weighed the user experience behind the versions against broadly dropping support.

Confirmed: Office 2010 32-bit and 64-bit coming on one DVD

Start64!With the announcement today around the five SKUs of Office 2010, we wanted to confirm what flavors each application would be available in. Microsoft confirmed in April that Office 2010 will be available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions, the first release of Microsoft Office to do this. Microsoft was willing to build on that information today.

Office 2010 32-bit and 64-bit coming on one DVD?

Start64!In March, a rumor started about there being a 64-bit version of Office 2010 and in April, we got official confirmation from Microsoft that this would indeed be happening. Ever since then, the number one question from readers commenting on Office 2010 posts was whether or not both 32-bit and 64-bit flavors would be available on one DVD. With Vista, this was not possible due to size constraints. However, with Office 2010, readers speculated, it might be possible to pull off.

Leaked: Office 2010 Technical Preview screenshots

Start64!Updated! - Earlier this week we learned that Microsoft would be giving out the Office 2010 Technical Preview to select testers on an invite-only basis. In January, screenshots of the alpha (then still codenamed Office 14) were leaked a week after select testers got them. This time, testers don't even have the Technical Preview yet, but new screenshots have already arrived (see below). Office 2010 will be available in 32-bit and 64-bit, and both flavors have been leaked.

Confirmed: Office 2010 will come in 32-bit, 64-bit flavors (Updated)

Start64!Last month, a very believable rumor started flying around in regard to Office 2010 shipping in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Check out ZDNet and Within Windows to see how the conclusion was drawn. Everything pointed to Microsoft finally offering a 64-bit flavor of its Office suite, previous versions of which have only shipped in 32-bit or 16-bit flavors.

Next Office will come in 32-bit, 64-bit versions

Start64!Microsoft on Tuesday confirmed that the next version of Office, code-named Office 14, will come in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. The 64-bit version is a first for both Office and for Microsoft's mainstream desktop applications, though a number of its server products, such as SQL Server, are already available in 64-bit versions.
