Blackbox for Windows is based stylistically on the Blackbox window manager for the X Window System by Brad Hughes, however it does not use the same codebase except for the gradient rendering code
The foundation of Blackbox for Windows is full cross-platform support
* a theme (or style as it is called in *nix) can be taken directly from *nix and used in Windows with little or no difference in appearance
* this means - unlike most other shells - themes don't have to be custom created for the shell
* hundreds upon hundreds of styles are at themes.freshmeat.net (login required) and at box-look
* strong portability of Fluxbox & Blackbox (for *nix) user configuration files - fully recreating the *nix interface on Windows
From the time the first line of code was written, Blackbox has evolved around one premise
* minimalism
* it's not meant to be Eye Candy (even though it is fairly simple to make it look really cool!)
* nor is it meant to be the most fully featured shell out there
* it is just meant to be fast
